Mind Solutions Corp. (San Diego, Calif.) has developed a wireless headset that detects and processes real time brain activity patterns (small voltage changes in the brain caused by the firing of neurons), software then translates these brainwaves into action on a user's computer or smart phone. By using non-invasive electroencephalography (EEG), it is possible to observe each person's individual electrical brain activity, and then translate this into actions powered by thought.
The BCI is in the form of a single dry contact on an ear piece, similar to Bluetooth ear piece. The EEG signal is picked up in the ear canal. Programs have been developed to operate electric wheel chairs, control a computer by opening and controlling web browsers, a well as compose and send e-mails. Users can use software applications either on their PC or on the go on a smartphone with just thought control.
Advanced orders of the BCI are available to shareholders of Mind Solutions at a discounted price of $99. The product is expected to retail for $129 when it is launched later this year. Orders can be placed beginning April 28 through the company's website.
The company is currently producing tutorial software that will be available for download from the website and due to the open architecture platform, there are over 100 apps currently on the market compatible with the mobile BCI.
"Mind Solutions is at a pivotal and exciting phase, as we transition from R&D into a revenue producing company with our cutting-edge BCI device," stated Kerry Driscoll, CEO of Mind Solutions.
