Zeiss invests €30 million in German incubator

Optoelectronics specialist Carl Zeiss AG has announced plans to build a shared innovation hub on the north campus of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2018; the hub will cover 12,000 square meters.

The building is expected to be operational by 2019 and Zeiss will place its own new business activities there but it will also provide a home for startups and spin offs from (KIT). One company already set to relocate there is Nanoscribe GmbH, a 2007 spin-off from KIT that performs laser-based lithography and micro-3D printing.

As part of the development Zeiss and KIT are forming a strategic partnership to work on such topics as machine learning and computer vision applications.
