Mentor buys Berkeley DA after Cadence lawsuit
The deal comes shortly after the conclusion of a legal battle between Berkeley DA and Cadence Design Systems Inc. (San Jose, Calif.). Cadence filed suit against Berkeley in April 2013 alleging that Berkeley DA had integrated its analog Spice nanometer circuit verification platform with Cadence’s Virtuoso Analog Design Environment in a manner that avoided the use of Cadence’s Oasis integration product and that Cadence claimed was in breach of contract agreements and copyright.
Berkeley DA settled with Cadence in January 2014 and signed a multi-year agreement to support interoperability between BDA’s Analog FastSPICE simulator and Virtuoso through the Oasis interface. Berkeley DA also agreed to pay an undisclosed amount of money to Cadence.
Berkeley DA was founded in 2001 by Amit Mehotra and Amit Narayan and built up a strong position for its Analog FastSPICE product but needed to interface to leading design environments from market leaders such as Cadence, Mentor and Synopsys.
