Report: China forms RISC-V consortium
RISC-V is an open and modular instruction set architecture that is free to use based on reduced instruction set computing (RISC) that is finding traction as an alternative to proprietary IP such as that licensed from ARM.
The Chinese consortium includes such companies as VeriSilicon, Espressif Systems, Ingenic Semiconductor, Unigroup, which includes Spreadtrum and RDA Microelectronics, Zhaoxin Semiconductor, Horizon Robotics, and C*Core Technology, the report said.
It does not include HiSilicon, the chip design arm of Hauwei or C-Sky Microsystems, which was acquired by Alibaba earlier this year and is now being incorporated into a subsidiary called Pingtouge.
The chairman of the consortium is Wayne Dai, chairman and CEO of Verisilicon.
