TSMC hiring for Arizona wafer fab
It is looking for a mix of R&D, process, equipment and IT software engineers among the positions it needs to operate the fab.
Only about 300 jobs will be new with TSMC planning to install 300 of its current employees to staff the wafer fab. It is then recruiting about 300 graduates and engineers with a couple of years’ experience, who are eligible to work in the US. The team of 600 will spend a year being trained in Taiwan.
TSMC has previously said that construction is due to start in 2021 with chip production intended to begin in 2024. The total cost of the project would be about $12 billion from 2021 to 2029. TSMC recently approved funds to begin construction of the fab in 2021 (see TSMC approves $3.5 billion spending for Arizona fab ) and is reportedly surveying sites around Phoenix for a location that is still to be decided.
Samsung has sought position to expand its wafer fab campus in Austin, Texas and Globalfoundries has said it is ready for “co-investment” from the US government in upstate New York.
