Xenergic raises €4m for low power SRAM

Xenergic is a 2017 spinout of technology from the University of Lund in Sweden and  raised a seed round of $1m (€850,000) last December for its ultra low power SRAM technology.

On-chip SRAM currently occupies 75 percent of the total area in integrated circuits and consumes more than half of the power consumption. The Xenergic design reduces the power consumption in applications from connected devices, mobiles and wearables to automotive and high-speed computation and communication such as datacentres and 5G infrastructure.

Other startups such as SureCore are also developing low power SRAM memory technology while alternative such as MRAM and ReRAM are also being used to reduce the power consumption in complex chip designs.

“This capital enables us to strengthen the organization to deliver Xenergic’s memory technology to a growing customer group,” said Babak Mohammadi, CEO.

“Applications such as Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) require more and more memories with higher bandwidth. At the same time, power consumption should be low. Here our product plays an important role and we get many positive feedbacks from our customers,” said Swedish serial entrepreneur Anders Berglund who is chairman of the board. “We have several interesting discussions with new customers in our sales pipeline that we plan to commercialize in the near future.”

Xenergic has a strategic partnership agreement with Bosch Sensortec and is part of a new European project on e-mobility.

The €33m Energy ECS (Electronics, Components and Systems) project, launched last month, aims to develop hardware, software services and data for smart mobility over the next three years. The R&D within the project will also apply artificial intelligence, machine learning, immersive technologies, IoT, ultra-low power technologies, advanced algorithms, and software. All the technologies will be designed with cyber-security and reliability in mind.

Xenergic is aiming to cut the power consumption in System on Chip devices by 70 to 90 percent. “The Energy ECS project is an important project for increasing energy efficiency and reducing the carbon emissions,” says Babak Mohammadi, CEO at Xenergic. “This project will also enable us to strengthen our market position as a leading provider of energy efficient high performance on-chip memories through the co-operation in the project.”;
