4Mpixel sensor performs in low light
SmartSens Technology Co. Ltd. (Shanghai, China) has released the SC4238 4 megapixel 1/3-inch CMOS image sensor.

The part has back-side illuminated 2-micron pixels with a resolution of 2688 by 1520. The sensitivity is up to 2800mV/Lux*s and maximum signal-to-noise ratio of 39dB. It supports up to 100dB in high dynamic range mode and features near-infrared (NIR) enhancement, which can effectively improve the quantum efficiency of the 850nm to 940nm band.

The signal-to-noise ratio under ultra low light conditions is 0.47, about 2.6 times improvement on competitors' products, Smartsens said.

The SC4238 is now in mass production.
