AI startup appoints FPGA, embedded veteran as CEO
AI chip startup Untether AI (Toronto, Canada) has appointed Arun Iyengar as CEO and expanded its Series A round of equity financing to $20 million.

Iyengar is a former Altera, AMD and Xilinx executive and replaces Untether co-founder Martin Snelgrove and former CEO becomes CTO.

Unether, founded in 2017, announced its Series A round of financing in April (see Mixed-signal designers form near-memory AI startup ). Since then Radical Ventures has joined Intel Capital and other investors in the Series A taking it up to $20 million in value. Radical Ventures partner Tomi Poutanen is joining Untether as a board member.

Untether AI claims to be developing the highest-performance neural net inference engine, based on bus-free near-memory computing and enabled by software capable of preplacing data when necessary. The architecture is said to be scalable from mobile devices to data centres. The so-called Kensington architecture gets data to the processors at 2.5 petabits per second, a rate 1,000 times better than what is possible in traditional architectures, the company has said.
