The move will allow a strategic alignment between ARM processor IP and Blu Wireless millimeter wave modem IP, Blu Wireless said.

Past and strategic investors are also involved in the round and the funding will allow the companies’ mutual customers to deploy millimeter wave communications for software-defined networks.

Blu Wireless started out working as a fabless chip company aiming to intersect the WiGig standard but a few years into its existence it adopted an intellectual property licensing business model and focused on back-haul communications within telecommunications infrastructure. Millimeter wave modems in the 10Gbps class, based on the Blu Wireless Hydra baseband, are now entering the market and Blu Wireless remains a WiGig system IP provider.

The money will be used to fund the further development Blu Wireless modem technology and extend its application to fixed-wireless access, 5G and high-performance networking.

“Underpinned by the level of interest our customers are already experiencing, we anticipate a huge acceleration of deployments of low-cost millimeter-wave networks over the next 10 years as operators look to roll-out pre-5G and 5G networks,” said Henry Nurser, CEO of Blu Wireless Technology, in a statement.
