Efinix is backed by Samsung and Xilinx and its Trion platform comprising logic, routing, embedded memory and DSP blocks and has been implemented in 40nm CMOS manufacturing process by Chinese foundry Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC).

It is not yet clear what process technology the T120 series of FPGAs will be implemented in.

The Trion T20 series includes FPGAs with between 4K and 200K logic elements. The eXchangeable Logic and Routing (XLR) cell at the heart of the architecture provides a 4x improvement in power-performance-area over traditional programmable architectures, Efinix claims and this is apparently a claim Xilinx is happy with.

During the past six months Efinix has engaged with more than 100 customers, according to Jing Kuo, Efinix vice president of sales and business development for China, who is joining the executive leadership of Efinix. The company is now delivering millions of units to fulfil customers’ orders. Previously, Kuo spent 13-years at Altera where he was a key contributor to the company’s success with Huawei in China.

“Driving the future of AI edge computing is our mission and volume production is a big step along that path,” said Ming Ng, Efinix senior vice presient of operations and applications, in a statement.

Itsu Wang, who is joining the executive leadership team as vice president of sales and business development, is experiencing similar success with customer engagements. “Response and demand for Trion FPGAs across the rest of Asia, especially for the T20, mirror our success in China.” Prior to joing Efinix, Wang held similar positions at QuickLogic, SiliconBlue Technologies and Xilinx.

“T20 FPGAs are just the beginning as we expand our product line with T120 samples,” said Efinix’s Ng
