Intel adds facial ID to RealSense depth sensing
Intel has added the ability to perform facial identification to its RealSense line of 3D camera modules in what it describes as its F450/F455 option.

F450 refers to a cased peripheral unit while F455 refers to an open PCB module. These include a specialized neural network designed to deliver user-aware facial authentication as well as a depth sensor.

The unit supports every skin tone and shade reliably and allows a natural interaction for most people. Intel RealSense ID also works in lighting conditions from complete darkness to strong sunlight. The specialized neural network allows the solution to adapt to changes over time - different hairstyles, facial hair and more.

The spoof acceptance rate is claimed to be less than 0.1 percent. Enrolment takes less than 1 second. The unit can authenticate people from 120cm to 190cm tall at a distance of 55cm and supports use at distances from 30cm to 1m from the sensor.

Intel RealSense ID consists of an SOC for data processing on device, with dual cameras for authentication, IR illuminators to allow indoor and outdoor operation, a secure element to protect your privacy and a specialized neural network to adapt over time.

The module connects to a host by USB2, supports Windows, Linux and Android operating systems and measures 50mm by 18mm by 4.6mm.

The cased peripheral is priced at $99 while the module is priced at $75 with a minimum order of 10.
