AI companies include: SambaNova Systems (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Untether AI (Toronto, Ontario) founded in 2017 and Zhuhai EEasy Technology Co. Ltd. (Zhuhai, China) founded in 2016.
Untether AI has designed a chip architecture for neural net inference that Intel claims moves data 1,000 times faster than traditional architectures. Zhuhai EEasy Tech is an AI system-on-chip (SoC) design house that supports AI acceleration; image and graphic processing; video encoding and decoding; and mixed-signal design. It has an AI SoC for video, automotive and smart devices that is due to enter mass-production in late 2019.
Communications companies include Tibit Communications Inc. (Petaluma, Calif.) a 2014 start-up developing access devices for Passive Optical Networking [PON]. Tibit replaces dedicated hardware boxes in carrier and enterprise networks with a small module connected to a standard Ethernet switch – providing significant savings of cost, power and space.
In the area of manufacturing Intel is backing OnScale (Cupertino, Calif.), which offers scalable engineering simulation for MEMS, IoT, 5G and autonomous vehicles, ProteanTecs (Haifa, Israel) with a chip telemetry solution; and Qolibri Inc. (Roseville, Calif.) with ideas about how to reduce waste of gases and materials in wafer fabs.
