Microchip expands Indian R&D with space for 1,200 employees
Microchip Technology Inc. (Chandler, Arizona) has set up a 100,000-square foot R&D center in Chennai, India that can accommodate up to 1,200 employees.

Microchip has been present in India since 2012 and employs approximately 1,800 people in India at present out of a total head count of approximately 14,000.

The R&D center will focus on IC design, physical design and application and software development the company said. The Chennai location joins Microchip's development centers in Bangalore and Hyderabad.

The company did not say how many people it would employ there initially or how soon it might reach maximum capacity.

"The new Chennai development center underscores Microchip’s commitment to designing and developing differentiated embedded control solutions for our customers," said Ganesh Moorthy, COO of Microchip, in a statement. "Microchip’s continued investment in India provides opportunities for the country’s workforce of highly qualified engineers while allowing us to better serve our growing customer base in the region," he added.
