“After a short transition period, Michael will leave to pursue other opportunities and we thank him for the significant contribution he has made to the business and wish him all the best for the future,” said a statement from the company. LeGoff resigned on 4th July.

Iain Silvester, Chief Financial Officer and Dr. Keith Strickland, Chief Technology Officer, have been jointly appointed as Co-Chief Executive Officers of the company, and will continue to follow the current business plan of building LED engines for the emerging Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Head Mounted Display (HMD) markets with its proprietary micro-LED display technologies and processes. This has been a marked change of direction from the development of gallium nitride on silicon LEDs for a wide range of lighting applications. Iain Silvester was most recently CFO of picoChip and previously Finance Director of Motion Media and could see the company looking for a buyout.

Last month, Plessey announced it had partnered with Vuzix to introduce Plessey’s microLED-based Quanta-Brite light engine into the next generation of Vuzix AR smart glasses.

Plessey ‘s display engines (DMD and LCOS) and full-field emissive micro-LED displays combine very high density RGB pixel arrays with high-performance CMOS back planes to produce very high brightness/low power/high frame rate image sources for HMDs, AR and VR systems.

LeGoff has been the CEO of Plessey since 2009, when he founded the company with the acquisition of legacy assets. He took over as Chair of the Board of Directors of nearby Plymouth Science Park last October.
