Sensirion selects site in Hungary for sensor factory
Sensirion AG (Stafa, Austria) has announced its expanding sensor production through a new production site in Debrecen in the east of Hungary, near the Roumanian border.

The site is being built and financed by a local "build-to-suit" partner. Sensirion did not reveal the amount being spent on the plant or the name of the partner, but said it has signed a long-term lease for the site.

The shell of the building will go up over 12 months after groundbreaking on June 30, 2020. Production is scheduled to start by 3Q21.

Initially, about 50 new jobs will be created with gradual expansion to 200 jobs by 2025. As the Debrecen site serves to expand production capacity, it will not affect any jobs at the existing Sensirion production sites in Switzerland, China and South Korea, the company said.

Sensirion makes gas and liquid flow sensors, differential pressure sensors and environmental sensors for the measurement of humidity and temperature, volatile organic compounds, carbon dioxide and particulate matter.

The Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) and the Debrecen Urban and Economic Development Center (EDC) supported Sensirion with site evaluation and planning, and the identification of local implementation partners.

Patrick Good, director of infrastructure at Sensirion, said: "Debrecen's excellent infrastructure, especially education facilities such as the University of Debrecen and the vocational training institutions, combined with an established industrial base, was the decisive factor in Sensirion choosing to establish a new production site there."
