Teledyne is an industrial conglomerate that includes about 100 companies. The acquisition was made through its subsidiary Teledyne Digital Imaging Inc.
Micralyne is a privately-owned foundry providing manufacturing and process development services for Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) devices. In particular Micralyne has expertise in microfluidic MEMS suitable for biotech applications, as well as capabilities in non-silicon-based MEMS suitable for human-body compatibility.
Recent acquisitions in the electronics sector include Dalsa in 2010 for about $342 million, CMOS image sensor company Anafocus in 2014 for $34.2 million and e2v in 2017 for about $627 million
Through its acquisition of Dalsa Teledyne has a MEMS foundry in Bromont, Quebec, that supplies MEMS for applications used in life sciences and semiconductor fabrication.
"Micralyne's technology, processes, and strong product development pipeline ideally complement Teledyne’s state of the art 200mm (8-inch) manufacturing capability and expertise," said Robert Mehrabian, executive chairman of Teledyne, in a statement. "The acquisition of Micralyne solidifies Teledyne as the number one independent multi-product MEMS foundry in the world."
