Could Samsung’s struggles with 5nm yield hit Qualcomm?
Rival TSMC has already started to make 5nm A14 processors for Apple while Samsung has yet to begin manufacturing and the first Exynos processor intended for the process, the Exynos 992 is missing, according to reports.
There were reports that the Galaxy Note 20 would be based on the Exynos 992 and would appear in 2Q20. The mobile phone is now expected to launch on August 5 but the rumors around the spec have changed to Snapdragon 865 Plus/Exynos 990.
Samsung, which has probably seen some delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic, is also said to be the foundry for mass production of the Snapdragon 875G and the Snapdragon 735G chipsets for Qualcomm. Poor yields could delay the launch of these chips and the associated x60 5G modem from Qualcomm.
